The trailer and main visual for Masahiro Higashide’s hunting documentary film “WILL,” which will be released sequentially throughout Japan on February 16 (Fri.), have been released.
Directed by filmmaker Elizabeth Miyaji with music by Moroha, this documentary film follows Higashide as he hunts for game over the course of a year. The film captures Higashiide living without electricity or running water, eating the deer and wild boar he hunts with his own hands, and interacting with the local people, all the while with a complicated heart.
The trailer, edited by Miyaji, captures a slice of Higashide’s year in the film, including him holding a deer he shot and staring off into the distance at nature, quietly showing the chaos, contradictions, and conflicts that he faces. The film also features words from people who face mountains and life, such as survival mountaineer Bunsho Hattori and photographer Ryuichi Ishikawa.
The main visual is a photo of Higashide standing in front of a dead deer he hunted in the snowy mountains, and is designed to question viewers about the way Higashide faces life.
