The special exhibition “Indian Miniature Paintings” will be held at the Fuchu Art Museum in Tokyo from September 16 (Sat) to November 26 (Sun).
Indian miniature paintings, measuring about 20 cm on each side, were enjoyed at the courts of the Mughal Empire and Rajput countries from the late 16th to the mid-19th century. The reason why he painted on small screens is because he believed that “the viewer and the painting have a one-on-one dialogue,” and that having a dialogue with the painting was also an act of purifying the soul.
The exhibition will feature approximately 120 outstanding miniature paintings from the collection of Japanese painter and Indian art researcher Koukyou Hatanaka.
