The title of the essay collection comes from his grandfather, a Naoki Prize-winning author.
Takano: There are so many things I want to talk about, it’s chaotic, but you recently started a diary called “Weekly Tanaka. What is this?
Tanaka: It is an official line. Some days I spend 3 hours on YouTube and 3 hours on Twitter. I thought it would be a waste to just look at it all, so I wrote it all down. It became a very long story. I kept sending them to my friends because they were interesting, and they wanted to read them again.
Takano: That’s amazing.
Celeina: Can anyone sign up for this?
Tanaka: Yes, they can.
Celeina: What is the name of your official account?
Tanaka: If you look up “Weekly Tanaka,” I guess you will find ……. I don’t really know how to use LINE. I always send 2,000 or 3,000 characters at a time, so I can’t send them in the first place.
Celeina: I can’t find it (laughs).
Takano: I wish you would publish it in NOTE or something.
Tanaka: But I want to send them only to people I know. I write a lot of bad words.
Celeina: (laughs). Then, maybe you should go to OPEN BOOK and meet Mr. Kairaki and tell him that you would like to sign up for the “Weekly Tanaka.
Tanaka: Please come visit us in Golden Gai.
Celeina: Also, I heard that you have published a book of essays.
Tanaka: I published a book.
Celeina: “The Drunkard Checks Out Twice.

Tanaka: Hiraki Tanaka, “The Drunkard Checks Out Twice” ( View on Amazon )
Takano: That’s a good title.
Celeina: : What kind of essay collection is this?
Tanaka: The title comes from a book that my grandfather translated called “The Postman Rings the Bell Twice,” and it’s basically a collection of essays that I can’t help but write about the various things I drank and ate, the history behind the establishment of the restaurant, and a bit about my travels. I write about Golden Gai, my travels, and other things on my own.
Takano: By the way, I have some information about your grandfather, Mr. Kai, who is a Naoki Prize-winning author, Mr. Tanaka Kujimasa.
Tanaka: Yes, thank you.
