Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke is set for a nationwide expansion in Japan, with its 4K digitally remastered version screening across all 47 prefectures starting Friday, November 7.
The remastered edition, overseen by Studio Ghibli for the highest image quality, debuted on IMAX screens on October 24. It drew 108,000 viewers and earned ¥240 million [≈$1.6M USD] in just three days, prompting the wider release. The number of participating theaters will increase from 61 to 171.
In addition to standard screenings, the expanded run will feature the film’s first-ever showings in Dolby Cinema. Selected theaters in Tokyo, Aichi, Osaka, and Okinawa will also offer English-subtitled screenings
