Tatsuro Yamashita has released his first new track in two years, “Onomatope ISLAND,” on Thursday, September 4. The song serves as the theme for episodes 5–8 of the Netflix series “Pokémon Concierge.”
Set on a tropical Pokémon resort, the series follows rookie concierge Haru (voiced by Non) and Psyduck as they interact with Pokémon and grow through their experiences. The first half of the series premiered worldwide in December 2023, and the new episodes are now available exclusively on Netflix.
Yamashita’s “Onomatope ISLAND” features his signature bright vocals and uplifting melody, taking over from Mariya Takeuchi, who performed the theme song for the series’ initial episodes. The track continues to enhance the show’s whimsical and heartwarming world.
Accompanying the release, the official music video is a stop-motion animation produced by Dwarf Studio, featuring a highly detailed puppet modeled after Yamashita himself.
In a first for Tatsuro Yamashita, who rarely appears in video, the new music video for “Onomatope ISLAND” brings his song to life with a series of heartwarming scenes. It begins with Hiapp tuning his instrument as the track kicks in, then shows Yamashita singing alongside Psyduck and Mudkip, culminating in a magical sequence where he soars through the sky on Dragonite. The video delivers a warm and soothing visual complement to the song.

I’m grateful to have been part of this amazing project—a collaboration between Pokémon and Dworf Studio, streamed on Netflix. We worked hard to create a piece that could live up to the incredible effort behind the visuals, where just one team produced four seconds a day, and eight teams together managed only thirty seconds. For me, the essence of Pokémon is captured in a single word: “onomatopoeia.” I wanted to infuse the song with a sense of brightness, even in these uncertain times.
