A new photography exhibition by renowned photographer Daido Moriyama will open at KOMIYAMA TOKYO G in Jinbocho, Tokyo, from March 22 to April 13. Titled Daido Moriyama Photo Exhibition: Katsuyori Shibata, the showcase features portraits of professional wrestler Katsuyori Shibata, captured by Moriyama at age 86.
The exhibition presents a series of striking images, ranging from Moriyama’s signature street photography to dynamic shots taken in the dojo and wrestling ring. Shibata, born in 1979, is the son of Katsuhisa Shibata, one of the co-founders of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. After debuting in NJPW in 1999, he went on to become an internationally recognized wrestler and is currently competing in AEW, the second-largest wrestling promotion in the world.
To commemorate the exhibition, a limited-edition book, Daido Moriyama: Katsuyori Shibata, will be released, produced entirely using silk screen printing. In addition, exclusive merchandise, including T-shirts and posters, will be available. The exhibition will also feature a selection of Moriyama’s vintage photo books, prints, and posters from Komiyama Shoten’s archives, which will be on display and available for purchase.
Shibata is set to visit Japan for the opening on March 22, where he will participate in a signing session for select books and artworks.
