A two-man live show featuring Elle Teresa and Satoko Shibata will take place on November 19 (Tuesday) at Shibuya WWW X in Tokyo.
Born in 1997, Elle Teresa is a rapper known for her cute stage performances and relatable, pure lyrics, earning immense support from teenage and young adult women. She has garnered attention for her performances at the hip-hop festival POP YOURS for two consecutive years, as well as her appearance on the cooking show Kan Kitchen hosted by Kan a.k.a. GAMI.

On the other hand, Satoko Shibata began her career in 2010, inspired by a comment from a university professor. She made her album debut in 2012 with her first album, Shibata Satoko Island. In addition to her music, she has contributed numerous poems, essays, and children’s stories. In 2016, she published her first poetry collection, Sabaaku, and in 2023, she released an essay collection, Kiregire no Diary, which compiled seven years of serialized work in the literary magazine Bungakukai. Shibata is also gaining recognition as a poet. Her 7th album, Your Favorite Things, is set to release in February 2024.

The concert will be held to celebrate the 14th anniversary of WWW and the 8th anniversary of WWW X, which will both take place in November and September respectively. Despite their seeming differences, Elle Teresa and Satoko Shibata share a commonality in expressing themselves through meticulously crafted lyrics, making this night a resonant experience.

Elle Teresa and Satoko Shibata may seem like polar opposites, but they share a common thread in their art: expressing themselves through meticulously crafted lyrics. Satoko Shibata’s 2024 album Your Favorite Things captures subtle discomforts, minor pains, and poignancies in everyday life, weaving these elements into each song. For instance, the line “The refrigerator door slams loudly, and it’s frightening” from the song “Under the Eyes” reflects a delicate distance between individuals. On the other hand, Elle Teresa’s 2024 EP Suki features the track “Sensei,” where she raps “Unfamiliar you, my medicine cabinet,” using her own expression to reflect on a toxic relationship indirectly (yet candidly).
The works of these two artists, who intertwine their thoughts and senses through their words, might resonate deeply. This two-man live show marks their first collaboration. It promises to be an evening filled with the power and ambiguity of their words, offering encouragement and inspiration. On this night, Satoko Shibata will perform with a full band, providing an opportunity to fully appreciate the ensemble’s nuances.
