The standing screening of the live film ‘Stop Making Sense,’ which has been released nationwide since February 2nd (Friday), is set to be gradually introduced in select theaters starting from February 16th (Friday).
Directed by Jonathan Demme (“Silence of the Lambs”), the film is a live performance of Talking Heads held at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood in December 1983. The film was first shown in Japan in 1985 and has been re-screened several times. In 2024, the 50th anniversary of the band’s formation and the 40th anniversary of the release of the Stop Making Sense film, A24, an American company specializing in film and television production, has revived the film in a 4K restored version.
For the upcoming standing screening, viewers will be allowed to engage in vocalization, dancing, bring supportive items, use glow sticks and penlights, make sounds with tambourines and maracas, and even participate in cosplay with Big Suits, all within specified limits. This unique experience will be available at various theaters, including TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, as well as in Shibuya and Roppongi in Tokyo. Additionally, screenings are scheduled in other cities such as Sendai, Yokohama, Osaka, with dates and times varying by venue.
