A “creative jack-of-all-trades” who acquired skills in the field
Celeina:And now, Mr.MARCO, you are the representative of the creative label “MANNERS KNOWS.
MARCO:My work is based on video and photography. I often direct PR videos for various brands for their seasons. In addition to that, I also work in many other fields, such as brand direction and design. My partner is a designer, so it’s like we work together and do everything creative together.
Takano: Did you always do video?
MARCO: I wasn’t doing it at all. I worked at a bike shop and was a bike rider, and I knew from the time I was a college student that I would live off of bicycles. Street riders produce their own videos. So I naturally started doing videos from there, or rather, I learned how to make them as I made them with people who could make them.
Having watched skateboarding and BMX videos from long ago, I have a base standard of what is cool and what is not cool, so I think how to make it cool led to the work I am doing now. For example, in a bicycle shop, when you think about how to make a product look cool, you need to take a picture and add a caption to it. I have been thinking about how to make it easier for people to understand the product by using images to communicate it. In the process of doing so, I felt that various techniques, including video, were necessary, and I gradually improved my skills in this area.
Takano: So you acquired skills while practicing in the field?
MARCO:Yes. It was a natural progression of what I had been doing.
Takano:Mr.MARCO’s works are available on Instagram. I hope everyone will check it out.
MARCO:Yes. But I am often told that there are not enough, so I would like to do my best to update it more (haha).
Celeina:So, here’s one song for you: we asked Mr.MARCO to choose a song he would like to listen to with everyone on the radio at this time. What song would it be?
MARCO:This song embodies the idea that sometimes things don’t go well even if you try your best, but if you keep trying, it will somehow work out. Everyone around me likes it. It’s “What I like” by shutsu.
