Enjoying inconvenience is the best part of solo camping
Celeina: Mr.Nagasoe selected the song “Kick It Out” by BOOM BOOM SATELLITES.
Takano: Mr.Nagasoe was in charge of this song, listeners. I’m sure many of you have seen it. It has cool graphics and the lyrics come out of your mouth.
Celeina:If there are listeners who haven’t seen it, this would be a good time for them to check it out. And Mr.Nagasoe, we have heard a lot about your work, but is there any culture you like outside of work?
Nagasoe:It’s a bit of a cliché since it’s so popular, but I like camping. I’m especially into solo camping, and I’ve been doing it for about 10 years now.
Takano: So you have a lot of gear?
Nagasoe:No, I don’t have a lot of gear. When I got into solo camping, I realized that it is better to have no gear. If you have too much gear, it’s no fun.
Takano: You mean you prefer inconvenience?
Nagasoe:Yes, that’s right. It is more interesting when there is trouble. Forgot that, forgot this, and so on.
Celeina:What kind of trouble do you enjoy?
Nagasoe:I don’t have so many hard troubles. However, the trigger was a really trivial trouble, but I forgot my chopsticks. As soon as I arrived at the campsite, I wanted to eat a cup of ramen, so I brought a cup of ramen and had hot water ready, but I didn’t have chopsticks. But then I thought, I have knives and wood, so I thought I could at least make chopsticks, so I made some disposable chopsticks. At that time, I wondered if this was a way to have fun. I woke up to the idea that it might be more fun to forget things or not to buy them.
Celeina:Mr. Nagazoe, is there anything you forgot on your most recent solo camping trip?
Nagasoe:It’s not something I forgot, but when I go solo, I don’t put up a tarp, but just a tiny tent with chairs under the blue sky. Then a storm came in the middle of the night, which was not mentioned in the weather forecast at all. It was 2 or 3 am, the wind was strong, the tent collapsed, and I couldn’t sleep.
Celeina:It was an emergency.
Nagasoe:It was an emergency, but then I thought, “What the heck, why don’t I sleep in the car?
Celeina:So simple.
Nagasoe:You don’t have to sleep in a tent, just sleep in the car.
Celeina:There are no rules. It’s your time.
Nagasoe:When it rains heavily, you can hear the sound of the wind and raindrops on the roof of the car. When I was listening to the sound, I felt a sense of security wrapped up inside the car. So, the next day, I pulled up a board in the back of the car and modified the car so that I could sleep in the car.
Takano: You prepare a photo on your iPad.But you did a lot of remodeling. It looks amazing.
Celeina: You put a board in the back seat so that people can sleep or lie down there, right?
Nagasoe: I thought this way we would be safe even if we were hit by a storm at any time.
Takano:It’s amazing that you can make anything. I’m sure you will come to realize many things. It seems to be connected to your work. It’s also a digital detox, isn’t it? We are all digital, aren’t we?
Nagasoe:Yes. Yes, I am.
Celeina:We’ve heard a lot about you, but “FIST BUMP” is a circle of friends connected by “Goo-Touch,” and you introduce your friends to us.
Nagasoe:He is in the same business as me, but he is the director of Studio Color, the company that makes “Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Celeina: In a word?
Nagasoe: An otaku boy with an overly refined sense of style.
Takano: From sense to sense. Thank you very much. Tomorrow, I will connect you to Hibiki Yoshizaki of Studio Khara.
Celeina: “FIST BUMP” today we have filmmaker Masatsugu Nagasoe. Thank you very much.
