AKIRA” T-shirts are part of my identity

Celeina: Mr. Takahashi selected the song “Diving into your mind” by Miyuki Hatakeyama. Mr.Takahashi-san is a collector of “AKIRA” T-shirts, but he is also a costume designer and stylist by profession. You designed the costumes for Genshi Yonezu’s music video “POP SONG” as well as for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

Takano: You also worked on the stage production of “Peter Pan”.

Takahashi: Yes, the play ended recently, and I designed the costumes for that as well.

Takano: You have a very wide range of experience, don’t you?

Celeina:Do you mean you do more costume designing than styling? More than styling.

Takahashi: Yes, I especially like costume design. I like to draw, so naturally I use Katsuhiro Otomo’s drawings as a reference while drawing.

Takano: I see.

Celeina:That’s where it all leads to. When you design clothes, do you use Otomo’s touch as a reference?

Takahashi: Yes, I use it as a reference. If I am designing a costume for someone who has not yet been cast, I draw Kaneda or the character’s face.

Takano: So it’s really a hobby, but it’s also directly related to my work. But then again, “AKIRA” has been loved for a long time. I wonder why.

Takahashi: For me, “AKIRA” has been a cool manga since I was an adolescent, and since then I can never take it off the bookshelf at home.

Takano: It’s true that the binding of manga is also very cool as an object.

Celeina: I’ll have to check it out.

Takahashi: By all means. From the manga side.

Celeina: Would you recommend manga?

Takahashi: Manga and anime.

Takano: Double check.

Takahashi: The contents are a little different.

Celeina: That’s deep. And finally, I would like to ask you a little about the appeal of “AKIRA” T-shirts.

Takahashi:When I wear it, I am carrying a part of the culture that I believe in. It’s like a uniform that allows me to wear what I like with confidence. It’s a bit difficult.

Celeina:But does a T-shirt give you a sense of being able to embody what you believe in in a visible and understandable way?

Takahashi:Yes. It’s not just about wearing something trendy; it’s about wearing something you like.

Celeina:Does it feel like part of your identity?

Takahashi:Yes, it is.

Celeina:Now, as part of the circle of friends connected through “FIST BUMP”, you are asked to introduce your friends to us, but what kind of people do you introduce to us?

Takahashi:I would like to introduce Masatsugu Nagasoe, a filmmaker.

Celeina:What is your relationship with him?

Takahashi:We are completely different in age, but we work at the same office and went to the same university.

Celeina: In a word, how would you describe your relationship?

Takahashi: Demons of sense.

Takano: I am looking forward to seeing the demon of sense. Tomorrow, we welcome Masatsugu Nagasoe.

Celeina: “FIST BUMP” today welcomes Tsuyoshi Takahashi, collector of “AKIRA” T-shirts. Thank you very much.
