The appeal of wrestling is “factions”
Celeina: Kae Tanaka has selected Travis Scott’s “CIRCUS MAXIMUS feat. The Weeknd,Swae Lee”. Earlier we talked about Osamu Tezuka and Travis Scott, but is there anything Kae-san has been into lately?
Tanaka: Recently, I have been into professional wrestling.
Takano: That’s a different genre.
Tanaka: I was curious about the many references to professional wrestling in a book by an author I know, Tsume Kirio-san, and asked Tsume-san, “What is interesting to watch?” He told me it would be interesting to see it from New Japan Pro-Wrestling. I have been watching for about 2 to 3 years since then.
Takano: Tsume-san used to appear on our program. You never know where the opportunity may come from.
Tanaka: That’s true. If I hadn’t met Tsume-san, I probably wouldn’t watch pro wrestling. I also have some merchandise from New Japan Pro-Wrestling, which I was allowed to put out.
Takano: Today, you brought a key chain.
Tanaka: Yes. We have official merchandise for Hiromu Takahashi and El Desperado.
Takano: It’s great that they are official.
Tanaka: I approached them myself. I had wanted to do it, and the player said he would like to do it, so these two actually came true.
Takano: Do you approach them through social networking sites?
Tanaka: I had met El Desperado through my company’s work, and I was able to pick up on his interest by telling him that I was also doing this kind of thing. I also had a chance to meet Hiromu-san once, so I talked with him there. That’s the spirit of stubbornness, isn’t it?
Takano: This is a good job.
Tanaka: I am really happy. In fact, the first match I saw was between these two.
Celeina:I see, you have some fond memories of it. I have never seen professional wrestling at all. Do you have any recommendations for newcomers?
Tanaka: There are a lot of characters, but I really like the factions, because there is always some kind of conflict, like A and B are fighting, and C and B are a little bit awkward.
Takano: Like rapper beef.
Tanaka: That’s right. I think women probably like it a lot. Like “Hypnosis Mike,” “Crows”series and “HiGH&LOW,” I love it when there are factions and they fight each other.
Takano: It might be interesting to look at wrestling from this angle.
Celeina: I like it. I think I’ll watch some professional wrestling this fall. Now, “FIST BUMP” is a circle of friends connected by “goo-touch,” and we are asking you to introduce us to your friends.
Tanaka: I would like to introduce an animator, Susio-san.
Celeina: How are you connected?
Tanaka: We originally met several times at BiSH’s live performances, and from there we started drawing pictures together. She also came to my exhibitions, and we have been friends for quite a long time.
Celeina: I see. To describe it in one word.
Tanaka: He is a very kind man.
Takano: Thank you very much. Tomorrow, we will welcome animator Sushio-san.
Celeina:“FIST BUMP” today we welcome illustrator Kae Tanaka. Thank you very much.
