Theme 4: “If I were to form a band now, what would it be?”

SKY-HI: I would like to form a band now as we live in an age where we can do anything alone. And I think there’s so much potential in co-writing, which has become a standard method. However, we still have plenty of things to do as a group. Sometimes when I spend a few days with the same people, such as camping, communication improves. We can understand each other with only a few words. I’m curious to see what happens when doing the same thing as a band.

DEAN: For me, a band means distortion guitar. I used to be in a jazz band, but if I were to play in a band, I would probably play in a band with a distorted sound.

Morley: Nowadays, many things are about playing sequences, so I would like to be in a band where everyone makes a lot of noise. I want to play chopper bass (laughs).

Theme 5: “The role of music in romantic relationships”

DEAN: I don’t really have any particular thoughts on it. Of course, there is music for that, but that’s not my main aim to make music.

DEAN: Instead, I sometimes think about the meaning of making music as a job – to take on the role of a musician, writer, or singer. I’d rather make music for a bigger picture, such as feeling uplifted and good about myself and appreciating being alive.

Theme 6: “What to expect from DEAN FUJIOKA”

Morley: I want him to spread his wings as he pleases. I think DEAN’s comfort zone he has built up so far extends as far as Jupiter in the solar system, but I’m excited to see if he ventures into risky things like Pluto, which is yet to be confirmed, or even further beyond the solar system.

Morley: I was shocked to hear my own voice through the recording device, and that shock unleashed me. So DEAN could do the same to shock and unleash his fans, who believe in him the most.

DEAN: I see. A little bit of a painful one (laughs).

SKY-HI: To piggyback on what you just said, it feels good to swallow when DEAN projects poison and stimulation to the art form. I heard that Gibier has a strong odor and exasperating taste, but when DEAN never made me feel that way. I would like to see and hear many things he makes that are out of the ordinary.

DEAN: I’m ready to stand at the Budokan as an artist

DEAN: My mother was a piano teacher, so I listened to music even before I was born. Music is a natural part of me.

But in terms of my career, I had the opportunity to do many different jobs, and music was one of those that started late. Because I had other work ahead of the music, I was able to establish a music career as a business first. Still, I had a lot of experience working backward from there. I can finally stand proudly on stage as a singer to express myself through music. I’m ready for the Budokan.

DEAN: Budokan is my starting point and might take me outside the solar system as Morley said, or I’m not as far away as expected. But I always want to continue my adventure.

Of course, I want to express my message through words. But I’m also looking forward to seeing what atmosphere and resonance I can create as a singer through my music and stage performance, which feels like a sacred ritual.

I will see you guys at Budokan on September 23.
