Staff Aligned with Gender Ratios in the Cast

According to the radio program “Radio Midnight News [Night Drama “Tsukutabe” Roundtable],” which was broadcast on NHK Radio 1 in three installments in conjunction with the progress of Season 2, there are many women in the cast as well as the staff of this production. In the first episode of the program, production supervisors Koji Sakabe and Yasuki Otsuka talked with writer Marie Minami about gender ratios in the film industry, revealing that the ratio of women to men on the production staff of She Loves To Cook, And She Loves To Eat is about 6:4, and that there are more women at the production manager level than men. There was even a time when Sakabe was the only male out of the 13 people on the set of a certain scene. In the generally male-dominated Japanese drama production scene, this is a rather unusual case.

However, if there are many women in the cast, it is rather natural that there should be many people of the same gender on the staff as well, and there should be many production problems that can be easily understood and solved because of the same gender. As mentioned in the program, it is a case-by-case basis, but at the very least, it may become more natural in the future to have more female staff in the production of movies and dramas in which many women appear.
