OKAME will digitally release their first album, ”DEBUT,” on February 4, marking a new chapter for former CHAI frontpersons MANA and KANA.
Launched in September 2025 following CHAI’s breakup the previous year, OKAME sees the duo return to the microphone and their instruments after briefly stepping away from the stage. The project has steadily built momentum since the October release of their debut single ”Okashina Kimochi,” followed by ”Terenai de,” in November and ”GAME OVER,” in December—three consecutive monthly releases leading into the album.
Their debut album is centered on the theme, ”this is our answer right now,” and captures OKAME’s current musical identity across eight tracks. Blending nostalgia with bright pop sensibilities, ”DEBUT,” presents the duo’s sound as it exists in the present moment.
The lead track, ”Tamaya,” has been selected for a collaboration with gadget accessory brand ”A SCENE,” with a music video art-directed by the brand’s director, koki furuya, now available.
Further expanding the project, OKAME will host a one-night-only screening of their first documentary film, ‘OK A ME REVOLUTION THROUGH MUSIC,’ on February 11 at Euro Live in Shibuya, Tokyo. Directed by illustrator chao!—KANA’s husband and making his directorial debut—the event will also feature a simultaneous screening of the short film ‘Gyoza-ten de Chōshoku o,’ produced by apparel brand ”FAT CLUB,” which uses the album track ”Yoru wa Kirai,” as its theme song.

Synopsis
MANA and KANA, the frontwomen of CHAI.
Born as twins, raised as twins, and finding success together as twins—what is the reason they believe music is still necessary?
CHAI rose to global recognition as a girls’ band, performing at festivals and appearing in major media across Japan and overseas. To many, CHAI had become a presence set apart, the very image of success.
Then came the unexpected breakup.
They considered walking away from everything, even leaving music behind altogether. But the answer they arrived at was to “pick up the microphone again.”
Why continue making music after experiencing illness, exhaustion, and setbacks?
This is not simply the story of a band called CHAI, but a deeply personal “after” story—one that only the two frontwomen, MANA and KANA, can tell.
The film marks the directorial debut of chao!, an illustrator and KANA’s husband. Having witnessed the duo’s emotional journey from closer than anyone else, he captures moments and expressions that only he could—revealing their “true faces” as one of the film’s most compelling highlights.
