On September 16, a striking new record shop, BLACK RECORDS, opened unexpectedly in Shibuya, immediately attracting attention for its all-black design that removes all cover art. The shop, now revealed as a secret project, is part of BMSG STREET GALLERY, celebrating the fifth anniversary of BMSG, the management and label led by SKY-HI.
The pop-up had already stirred curiosity on social media, with fans speculating about “who’s behind this mysterious record store.” The grand reveal, timed for September 18, the anniversary of BMSG’s founding, symbolizes the label’s mission to encourage new musical discoveries and foster positive changes in the music industry.
The shop is an experimental installation emphasizing sound over visuals. Visitors can select a record from the blacked-out collection and scan a QR code on a novelty item to listen to the corresponding track. The first floor offers a novelty-based listening experience, while the basement features a dedicated listening room. Starting September 18, visits will be available by reservation on a first-come, first-served basis.

I’ve always wanted to pursue the pure enjoyment of music without compromise, so I approached this project exactly as I envisioned.
Whether you see a deep meaning in it or none at all, I hope people simply enjoy the experience in their own way. It’s turned into a really cool space, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage sincerely with music and its surrounding culture, and for the chance to create something like this.
