The international art fair ‘Tokyo Gendai’ returns for its third edition, taking place September 12–14 at Pacifico Yokohama in Minato Mirai, Kanagawa. The event will bring together more than 60 contemporary art galleries from Japan and abroad, presenting a wide range of works for exhibition and sale. Acting as a hub for galleries, artists, collectors, and audiences, the fair aims to connect Japan’s art scene with the wider world and spark the exchange of fresh perspectives and ideas.
This year’s gallery sectors include “Galleries”, showcasing curated presentations by leading artists; “Hana ‘Flower’”, spotlighting one or two emerging or mid-career artists; and “Eda ‘Branch’”, focusing on renowned or historically significant Asian artists. Complementing these are five public programs: “Art Talks” panel discussions, the large-scale installation platform “Sato ‘Meadow’”, special exhibitions by cultural foundations under “Ne ‘Root’”, works by Japanese women artists blending craft and contemporary practice in “Tsubomi ‘Flower Bud’”, and the newly launched “Hana Artist Award.”
For 2025, ‘Tokyo Gendai’ has also entered a strategic partnership with Korea’s ‘ART BUSAN.’ The collaboration seeks to foster a sustainable East Asian art market and deepen cultural exchange, with support provided for nine Korean and two international galleries to participate. The fair will also introduce collaborative engagement programs for visitors and exhibitors, along with the launch of a new Curator Symposium to encourage international curatorial dialogue.
