The A24-produced film I Saw the TV Glow will hit Japanese theaters nationwide on Friday, September 26.
The film was officially selected for the Panorama section of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. Set in the 1990s American suburbs, this melancholic thriller explores the journey of teenagers grappling with their identities. The story follows Owen, a suburban teen for whom the enigmatic late-night TV show Pink Opaque offers a rare escape from his difficult reality. Alongside Maddy, who shares his fascination with the show, they start to see themselves mirrored in its mysterious characters. The film is written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, known for We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.
Coinciding with the release announcement, poster visuals have been revealed. Both the U.S. and Japanese versions were designed by Yotia Oshima, with the Japanese poster featuring an original illustration by Mayu Yukishita.
The newly released trailer features scenes of Owen and Maddy staring intently at the TV screen, their exchanges conveying a sense of entrapment, and the dreamy sequences from Pink Opaque. The song used in the trailer, “Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl,” is originally from Broken Social Scene’s 2002 album You Forgot It in People and is covered by Los Angeles–based artist yeule.
