The Japanese poster and trailer for ‘ANORA’ have been released ahead of the film’s Japanese premiere on February 28, 2025.
‘ANORA’ won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, with jury president Greta Gerwig praising the film as “authentic yet unpredictable.” The story follows Anora, also known as “Annie,” a strip dancer in New York, who becomes a “contract girlfriend” to Russian heir Ivan for $15,000 a week. She impulsively marries him, but their union faces fierce opposition from Ivan’s Russian parents, with the film exploring Anora’s battle against classism and prejudice.
Directed by Sean Baker, acclaimed for ‘Tangerine’ (2015) and ‘The Florida Project’ (2017), ‘ANORA’ presents a modern, realistic take on the classic Cinderella story of a love between unequal social classes. Annie is portrayed by rising star Mikey Madison, known for her roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Scream (2022), while Ivan is played by Mark Edelstein, often called “Russia’s Timothy Chalamet.”

The newly released trailer begins with the fateful meeting between Annie and Ivan. It shows moments of her becoming a “contract girlfriend,” their lavish time in Las Vegas, and their wedding, capturing the peak of their happiness. However, their fate takes a sharp turn immediately after. Faced with strong opposition from Ivan’s Russian parents, who hurl discriminatory words at Annie, she desperately fights back, ultimately shouting “Drop dead! You disgusting bastard!” over the phone, as the trailer highlights her defiance in the face of adversity.
