The horror-comedy film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will be released in Japan on September 27 (Friday). The first Japanese trailer and teaser visual have also been released.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, directed by Tim Burton, who also helmed the original 1988 film and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, is set 35 years after the first “Beetlejuice”. The film centers around Beetlejuice, a mischievous 600-year-old “human scarer” operating in the afterlife who schemes to marry a human to move to the human world. The story unfolds on Halloween night, intertwining the plans of Lydia, a human with psychic abilities who Beetlejuice tried to marry 35 years ago, and Dolores, Beetlejuice’s ex-wife who was dismembered and sealed in the afterlife for centuries.
Beetlejuice continues to be played by Michael Keaton and Lydia by Winona Ryder. In addition, Jenna Ortega, the heroine of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” plays Lydia’s daughter Astrid, who is trapped in the afterlife on Halloween night, and Monica Bellucci plays Dolores.
The trailer includes a scene where Beetlejuice appears in the attic after Astrid calls her name three times, a scene where Dolores searches for Beetlejuice in the afterlife, and Beetlejuice seducing Lydia in order to escape Dolores’ revenge. The Japanese trailer is narrated by Tomokazu Sugita.
The teaser visual features a full face design of Beetlejuice with a fearless smile, and is flanked by an introduction of Beetlejuice and the summoning rule: “If you call my name three times, I will come to you from the afterlife”.
