Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Chime” and Riho Kudo’s “August My Heaven” have been officially invited to the Berlinale Special section of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.
In “Chime,” the main character Matsuoka, who works as an instructor at a cooking school, begins to experience strange fears in his daily life after Ichiro Tashiro, one of his students, makes a suspicious comment during a lesson: “Someone is sending me messages with a chime-like sound,” and “Half of my brain has been replaced and I am a machine. The film is “neither horror nor suspense, but a completely new genre of film. Mutsuo Yoshioka stars in the film, and the new cast includes Seiichi Kohinata, Hana Amano, Junpei Yasui, Koji Seki, Giiko, Ai Kawazoe, Hiroki Ishige, Tomoko Tabata, and Ikkei Watanabe.
“August My Heaven” tells the story of a chance meeting between the main character Jono Yuzuru, who makes a living as a proxy attendant; Saegusa Nampei, a waiter at a Chinese restaurant who has feelings for her; and Hase Kaoru, her best friend who has been missing for five years. The story unfolds when Kaoru, who says she was reunited with her old friend Izumi at her former teacher’s funeral, meets Yuzuru, who is pretending to be Izumi. Yuzuru is played by Yukino Murakami, Nampei by Tamari Suwa, and Kaoru by Takuma Fujie. The cast also includes Nanami Hasegawa, Ryugo Yamazaki, Akira Nishide, and Takuji Suzuki.
“Chime” and “August My Heaven” will have their world premieres at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held in Germany from Thursday, February 15 to Sunday, February 25, and both will be sold exclusively on the media distribution platform Roadstead.
