Affirming the Subtle Shades of Life Through the Band’s Vision
Finally, thinking beyond just this album, have you come to see what kind of band Laura day romance wants to be over the past year?
Suzuki: With this album and through our activities in general, there were moments when I thought, “What exactly are we trying to say?”
At one point, it hit me: “The world is full of colors.” There are so many subtle gradations in life, and I feel like our work reflects their existence and their reasons for being. I want to believe that the world allows people to exist just as they are, and if someone sees that in our work and it inspires them to start something new in their own life, I think that’s the most ideal form of art. I hope we can realize that in a pure way, and moving forward, I want to share it as widely as possible with everyone.
Isomoto: What we can do is offer perspectives or ways of thinking. The most rewarding thing is when someone experiences a change after encountering our work. I want to create work that can become a starting point for new human activity. That’s something that, as artists, hasn’t changed for us—past, present, or future.
Inoue: For me, it’s not like I have a strong message I need to convey, but there are still lots of thoughts about life and society that I carry. If I tried to express them directly, it would probably feel political, and that would be a shame. Even putting something out into the world is inherently political, but I think an artist can make that message strongest through their work. For us three, it’s important to move in the same direction. What Jin just said, I feel the same way about. By keeping that alignment and updating ourselves as we go, I want to make sure our work reaches people without losing direction.
