Hosono: Wonderful. What instrument do you have with you right now?
Sam: It’s a toy saxophone, but it’s really cool. I wish I had one of these when I was younger.
Hosono: That’s the first time I’ve seen one. That’s great! You’re such an interesting musician. It seems like you really love to perform.
Sam: Yeah, playing live is really fun.
Hosono: Your guitar playing is great too.
Sam: I don’t consciously focus on playing the guitar well.
Hosono: I thought so. If you focused on it, you wouldn’t be able to play like that. It’s perfect just as it is. I’ve met a lot of musicians, but I might be meeting someone who is truly a musical force for the first time. What’s your upcoming live schedule?
Sam: I’m not sure. I don’t really make plans.
Hosono: So, maybe you’ll just have an impromptu performance? You’ll probably pop up somewhere, so we should all try to find you [laughs].
Sam: I’m really inspired by the character Motoko Kusanagi from ‘Ghost in the Shell.’ She sheds her physical body and enters the digital world, so she can exist anywhere, anytime. That idea really resonates with me.
Hosono: I think you’re perfect just the way you are.
Sam: I think that won’t change.
