NiEW’s free-entry showcase exPoP!!!!! Vol.181 is set to light up Spotify O-nest in Shibuya on February 27, bringing together four artists pushing Japan’s independent scene forward.
Backed by TuneCore Japan, the latest edition of the long-running series will feature Super Tozanbu, Natsudaidai, Hobo, and Harukaze Record — a lineup that moves from mountain-born indie spirit to sleek, self-produced groove.
Formed in 2023 in Aichi, Super Tozanbu live up to their name. Built around the concept of mountains and music, the five-piece split their time between trekking expeditions and live performance, staging shows in high-altitude lodges as well as traditional venues. Their debut album arrived this summer, and a Tokyo–Nagoya–Osaka tour is already on the horizon.
Natsudaidai, the project of vocalist Yoh and trackmaker Nanae, also emerged in 2023. Handling everything in-house — songwriting, production, mixing, and artwork — the duo craft a fluid sound rooted in neo-soul and R&B while folding in electronic, house, and techno influences.
Hobo brings together singer-songwriter Yujiro Kudo and former andymori drummer Daiki Goto. What began with guest appearances at Kudo’s shows evolved into a full-fledged band in 2025. For the O-nest performance, DOGADOGA’s Hiroshi Fujiwara will join as support bassist.
Rounding out the bill is Harukaze Record, selected through TuneCore Japan’s audition program. Drawn together by the expressive voice of vocalist Haru Ikeda, the five members have gained attention for intimate lyrics, nuanced arrangements, and a sound that has resonated strongly with fellow musicians and creators.
