The 4K digital remaster of ‘The Fall’ is becoming a major revival hit in Japan, and the film has now confirmed its second and third rounds of visitor gifts.
Long treated as a “phantom film” in Japan due to its absence from streaming since its 2008 release, Tarsem Singh’s cult fantasy epic has returned to theaters with remarkable force. Developed over 26 years and filmed across more than 24 countries and 13 World Heritage Sites without the use of CGI, the film is also beloved for the late Eiko Ishioka’s iconic costume work.
Since the theatrical run began on November 21, momentum has continued to climb. By November 30, box office revenue had already passed 110 million yen. As of December 7, attendance exceeded 100,000 viewers with revenue reaching 160 million yen, leading to an expansion from 43 theaters to 100 nationwide. Pamphlets and official merchandise have been selling out one after another, an unusual level of excitement for a revival release.
To thank audiences, theaters will distribute mini cheki size ‘The Fall 4K Digital Remaster’ memorial cards. The second set, featuring two designs, will be available from December 12 to 18. A third set with two new designs will follow from December 26 to January 1.
