Rosalía’s latest album LUX is set for a Japan domestic CD release on January 28, following a record-breaking global debut.
Released digitally on November 7 as her fourth full-length studio album, LUX debuted at No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Albums chart, marking the biggest first-week streaming debut ever by a Spanish-language female artist on the platform. The album went on to top charts worldwide, becoming the most successful release of Rosalía’s career to date.
The Japan CD edition expands on the digital release with a total of 18 tracks, adding three bonus songs previously exclusive to imported LP and CD editions. The package also includes full lyrics and Japanese translations for all songs.
Recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Daníel Bjarnason, LUX features an ambitious lineup of collaborators, including Björk, Carminho, Estrella Morente, Silvia Pérez Cruz, the Escolania de Montserrat and Cor Cambra Palau de la Música Catalana, Yahritza, and Yves Tumor.
Exploring themes of femininity, transformation, and spirituality, Rosalía moves between fantasy and loss, faith and self, while singing in more than ten languages, including Japanese. Music videos for ”Berghain,” featuring Björk and Yves Tumor, and ”La Perla,” featuring Yahritza y Su Esencia, are currently available on YouTube.
To mark the release, a limited-time LUX pop-up featuring special merchandise will run from December 19 to December 29 at Tower Records Shibuya, Tokyo. Japan-exclusive items include T-shirts and hoodies, with additional details to be announced.
