Rol3ert released his new single ”(how could i be)honest?” on December 17, marking the second installment in his three-month consecutive release project.
Born in the U.S. in 2005, Rol3ert has quickly emerged as one of the most promising new singer-songwriters of his generation. After debuting with ”meaning” in January 2025, he held his first solo show just six months later at Daikanyama SPACE ODD. The momentum continued with appearances at major festivals including ”FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2025” and ”SWEET LOVE SHOWER 2025,” and a win for Best Breakthrough Artist at the ”Tokyo Alter Music Award 2025.”
Following November’s release ”frozen,” the new track is Rol3ert’s fastest and most distorted song to date, pushing his sound toward a warped, synth-driven alternative dance rock. Beneath its irresistible forward motion lies the unfiltered inner voice of a 20-year-old grappling with unspoken anxiety and loneliness, shaping the song into what can be described as an SOS disguised as dance music.
The track’s multilayered sound was crafted with producer MONJOE, continuing their collaboration after June’s ”Nerd.” Mixing and mastering were handled by D.O.I., whose approach to low-end weight and vocal processing gives the song an unsettling texture that subtly subverts rock conventions.
A music video for ”(how could i be)honest?” premiered on December 19 at 10 p.m. JST. Expanding on hints left in the latter half of the ”frozen” video, the new visual places band performance at the forefront, further sharpening Rol3ert’s evolving artistic identity.
