Ren Meguro, star of the J-pop powerhouse Snow Man, has officially joined the cast of “SHOGUN” Season 2.
The Disney+ Star drama, adapted from James Clavell’s 1975 bestselling novel SHOGUN, stunned audiences in its first season with epic tales of political intrigue and scheming set in pre-Sekigahara Japan, drawing inspiration from historical figures like Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari. Season 1 swept the awards circuit, claiming 18 Emmy Awards— including four major categories—and four Golden Globes.
Meguro will make his debut as Kazutada, a new character for Season 2, with filming kicking off in Vancouver, Canada, in January 2026. Full details on his role are yet to be revealed, but fans can expect the Snow Man star to bring his signature charisma to the historic saga.

“I’m Ren Meguro, and I’m thrilled to be joining SHOGUN 2. When I watched the series on Disney+ last year, I was deeply moved by the scale and the way Japan was portrayed differently from other overseas productions. I immediately knew I wanted to be part of it as a Japanese actor. From there, I started researching the team, the vision of Hiroyuki Sanada, past productions, and articles about SHOGUN.
Earlier this year, I had the chance to audition, submitting videos and meeting with the team in the U.S. Being selected for SHOGUN feels like a dream come true. For the past year, I’ve imagined myself on set, and now I want to honor everything so many people have built by bringing my role to life with care and dedication. I hope everyone will look forward to SHOGUN 2″
