Photographer Mikako Kozai, celebrated for her portraits of Ayano Kaneko and other artists, will present her solo exhibition “Shiranai” starting Friday, December 12, at Open Room in Hatsudai, Tokyo.
Born in 1994, Kozai has built a diverse portfolio spanning magazines, web media, and album artwork, while continuing her personal exploration of landscape photography.

Her first solo exhibition in four years features a series of photographs taken between 2017 and 2023 across Hokkaido, retracing trips once taken by her parents. Using her father’s travel notes—which document journeys with her mother, who passed away when Kozai was just two—she captures landscapes that feel strangely familiar yet unknown, offering a present-day glimpse into memories that transcend the personal.
The opening day will feature a talk with fellow photographer Mariko Kobayashi, and another event, combining a talk and a mini live performance, is scheduled for Monday, January 12 [2026].
