NiEW’s long-running free-entry music series exPoP!!!!! returns with Vol.178 on Friday, November 28, at Spotify O-nest in Shibuya, Tokyo. The night will showcase four exciting acts at the forefront of Japan’s music scene: Rol3ert, 烏兎-uto-, BabyCanta, and Johnnivan.
Rol3ert, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter born in 2005, has been turning heads with his globally inspired production, J-POP-infused melodies, and introspective lyrics. After launching with meaning in January 2025, his April single HOPE reached the Top 20 on J-WAVE TOKIO HOT 100, and he performed at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’25 and SWEET LOVE SHOWER 2025.
烏兎-uto-, a Tokyo-based duo formed in 2023, features childhood friends Hikari Kubota (Pf) and Bay Sato (Vo) from Hokkaido. Their name, meaning “sun and moon,” reflects their luminous, heartfelt songs that capture the beauty of everyday life.
BabyCanta, 22, gained viral attention in 2024 with his cover of Gen Hoshino’s SUN, which racked up 200,000 views overnight. His debut EP SHYBOY – EP (June 2025) drew national attention, with the title track earning power play on 53 radio stations.
Johnnivan, a multinational rock band formed in 2018, brings together talent from Japan, the U.S., and Korea. Centered on Johnathan Calrissian (Vo) and Shogo Takatsu (Keys), all members met at Waseda University and have since performed at major festivals like Summer Sonic and Korea’s DMZ Peace Train Music Festival.
