Japanese-Australian singer-songwriter Nikki Azura has released her latest digital single, “You”, on Wednesday, October 8.
Born and raised in Tokyo with roots in both Japan and Australia, 22-year-old Nikki first gained attention as a participant in the inaugural class of Sony Music’s global artist development program, TORA PROJECT, which has produced acts such as the boy unit Bestted. She began writing and composing her own music around 2022 and currently balances her studies at a music school in Sydney, Australia, with ongoing song production.
“You” marks Nikki’s second release following her debut single “New Day” in August 2025 and is her first track to feature Japanese lyrics. The song also features piano by Ai Fujimoto, known for collaborations with JUJU and milet. Alongside the release, Nikki has shared self-penned liner notes reflecting on the creative process behind the song.
Everyone encounters people who can be unkind at times, and I’ve had moments when my heart was hurt. “You” was born out of those experiences.
The people I wrote about weren’t truly cruel, but the pain I felt back then was real—and even now, looking back, it still tightens my chest. For me, “You” is also a song of hope. During those difficult times, there were people who stayed by my side.
It’s a feeling of “As long as you’re here, nothing else matters.” I hope that when listeners hear this song, they remember those who were there for them, rather than those who caused pain. Even among strangers, never forget that someone out there cares for you.
Additionally, a music video directed by filmmaker Shohei Miwa (TOU) has also been released.
