From November 11 to 16, Smappa!Group will present the second edition of their Japanese dance performance, Kōshoku Ichidai Otoko: Nihon Buyō Yamamura-ryū Maizarai, at Shinjuku.
Smappa!Group, known for its diverse ventures in Kabukicho—including host clubs, restaurants, hair and makeup salons, art galleries, and caregiving services—aims to foster joy and culture in the district. Guided by the philosophy of “creating and nurturing Japanese culture from Kabukicho,” the group actively promotes cultural projects such as host poetry gatherings, cultural host clubs, and traditional Japanese dance.
The troupe, named after Ihara Saikaku’s ukiyo-zōshi Kōshoku Ichidai Otoko, which depicts the life of a playboy, has trained under master Yamamura Wakashizuki of the Kamigata-style Yamamura school for the past year and a half. Following their first performance in spring 2025, the season 2 production features new members and an evolved repertoire.
A special highlight of the six-day run will be on Thursday, November 13, when master Yamamura joins the troupe to perform Yumihari-zuki, promising an unforgettable showcase of classical Japanese dance.
