“IT” Prequel Drama Series “It: Welcome to Derry” Now Streaming on U-NEXT

HBO’s original TV series It: Welcome to Derry, a prequel to the horror film IT, began streaming on Monday, October 27 at 10:00 JST on HBO Max via U-NEXT. The series is directed by Andy Muschietti, who helmed both films in the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel.

The original IT film, which earned over $700 million worldwide, follows the “Losers’ Club,” a group of children confronting the terrifying clown Pennywise in the town of Derry, where kids keep mysteriously disappearing.

Muschietti, who also serves as creator and executive producer of the series, directs multiple episodes, expanding on the mysteries of Derry that were not explored in the films.

A newly released 60-second trailer opens with Charlotte Hanlon, a mother who has just moved to Derry in 1962, sensing an unsettling, indescribable tension in the seemingly quiet town. The trailer also shows young Lily trembling as she says, “A lot of things happen here, but no one talks about them.” Scenes hint at the dark undercurrents hidden beneath Derry’s idyllic surface, including its eerie residents, dense fog rolling over the town, and fireballs descending from the sky—offering a chilling glimpse into “the most terrifying beginning.”
