“Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in Tokyo 2025” will be held for two weeks, from Friday, December 12 to Thursday, December 25, at the Human Trust Cinema Shibuya in Tokyo.
The Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des Cinéastes), an independent section of the Cannes Film Festival established in 1968 to celebrate films with strong artistic vision and distinctive authorship, offers audiences a first look at its latest lineup on Japanese screens. Co-hosted with the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), the event was first held in 2023 and is now returning for its third edition.
This year, five films from the 57th Directors’ Fortnight (78th Cannes Film Festival) have been announced for screening: The President’s Cake, National Treasure, Mirrors No.3, The Girl in Snow, and Yes. Comments from Julien Régis, the event’s Artistic Director, have also been released.

We are honored and thrilled that the 57th Directors’ Fortnight, the independent section of the Cannes Film Festival, is being held in Tokyo for the third consecutive year, offering Japanese audiences the chance to experience the films screened in 2025. This is a very special opportunity for us.
We are particularly delighted by our collaboration with VIPO, as this year’s selection includes two Japanese films, notably Rikiya Imaizumi’s masterpiece Kokuho (National Treasure), which achieved remarkable success in theaters. Directors’ Fortnight has always supported films with strong artistic vision, and the commercial success of this work is especially gratifying. We sincerely hope for its continued international success.
In addition, the lineup features films we highly recommend, including Nadav Lapid’s Yes—one of the most talked-about films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival—Christian Petzold’s Mirrors No.3, showcasing the talent of the acclaimed German director, and Louise Émon’s debut feature The Girl in the Snow.
We hope you enjoy Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in Tokyo!
Julien Régis
Artistic Director
In addition, a new key visual for the event has been released. The artwork created by filmmaker Harmony Korine, known for writing KIDS, was specially produced for the poster of the 57th Directors’ Fortnight.
