Starting December 12, Back to the Future will be screened nationwide in Japan for a limited one-week engagement. This special release commemorates the 40th anniversary of the film’s original 1985 debut. For the first time in the film’s history, it will be shown in IMAX with subtitles, as well as in the premium 4DX format, available in both subtitled and dubbed versions.
The announcement coincided with October 21—the day Marty McFly travels to the future in Back to the Future Part II—when a special 40th-anniversary trailer and key visual were released. The key visual captures Marty gazing toward the future, highlighting key story elements such as the speeding DeLorean, young versions of his parents, and the iconic lightning strike at the clock tower. The design evokes a nostalgic, emotional feel while celebrating the film’s enduring legacy.
The anniversary trailer features narration by Yuji Mitsuya, who also provides the voice of Marty in the 4DX dubbed version.
