Musician Ichiko Aoba will perform a solo concert titled Luminescent Creatures World Tour in ISHIGAKI on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Ishigaki, the central city of the Yaeyama Islands.
Since 2020, Aoba has regularly visited Hateruma, the southernmost inhabited island of Japan, immersing herself in a lifestyle close to nature. These experiences have profoundly influenced not only her music but her worldview. Her latest album, Luminescent Creatures, reflects these experiences, featuring tracks such as “24° 3′ 27.0″ N 123° 47′ 7.5″ E,” named after the coordinates of Hateruma’s lighthouse and incorporating local folk songs, and “mazamun,” meaning “demon” or “yokai” in the island’s dialect.
The Ishigaki performance will feature a string ensemble. Advance ticket sales, including an option for international fans, are open until Sunday, September 21. A special “Yaeyama Residents Discount” is also available for local residents.
Ichiko Aoba has shared a message ahead of the concert.
I’m thrilled that my long-cherished concert in the Yaeyama Islands has finally been confirmed.
My albums since 2020, Adan no Kaze and Luminescent Creatures, were deeply inspired by the Yaeyama region, and I consider this performance a kind of homecoming for these works. I want to perform them together with my trusted band members as a gesture of gratitude.
The venue, Ishigaki City Hall’s Grand Hall, is a historic space where folk song competitions and other events are held, and I’m honored to be able to perform there. I warmly invite residents of Ishigaki, the surrounding islands, Okinawa’s main island, and even those coming from afar to come and experience the roots of these works.
I believe you’ll be able to hear the songs themselves taking joyful, deep breaths throughout the hall.
