Singer-songwriter Nikki Azura made her worldwide debut on Wednesday, August 20, with the digital single “New Day.”
Nikki Azura, 22, was born and raised in Tokyo and has Japanese and Australian roots. In 2021, she joined the first generation of TORA PROJECT, Sony Music’s global artist development program that has produced acts such as the boy group Bestted. Influenced by artists including Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and SZA, she began writing and composing songs around 2022. She is currently studying at a music school in Sydney, Australia, while continuing her songwriting activities.
Her debut single, “New Day,” was written during a period of self-discovery and uncertainty about her path in life. The song was inspired by the desire to greet each day with a fresh mindset and serves as a cheering anthem for those wanting to move forward and take on new challenges. The track was written and composed by Nikki Azura herself, with production.
Alongside the release, the music video for the track was also unveiled. Directed by visual artist Shohei Miwa (TOU), known for his work on Rikimaru Ishida’s “Samishii Nanashi,” the video depicts Nikki Azura stepping into a new beginning, capturing the tension between anxiety and anticipation.
