NiEW’s free-entry music event “exPoP!!!!! Vol.176” will take place on Friday, August 29 at Spotify O-nest in Shibuya, Tokyo.
This edition, held with support from music distribution service TuneCore Japan, will feature five acts: Shonen Kids Bowie, Trooper Salute, Gorilla Matsuri’s, Nagisa Murakami, and FUJIBASE.
Formed in 2020, Shonen Kids Boy is a Tokyo-based “double-life” band whose members all work full-time jobs while pursuing music. Passionate music lovers to the core, they blend influences from not only music but also fashion, film, comedy, manga, and various other facets of culture and entertainment.
Trooper Salute is a five-piece symphonic indie rock band from Nagoya. Highly trusted by their local live house scene, they supported numerous touring acts—domestic and international—within their first year. In December 2024, they released their debut EP “Trooper Salute” and held release events in Tokyo and Nagoya, with the Nagoya show at K.D. Japon selling out. In 2025, they are slated to perform at major festivals including SYNCHRONICITY’25, Mori, Michi, Ichiba 2025, and YATSUI FESTIVAL! 2025.
Gorilla Matsuri’s is a three-piece band from Shiga, consisting of Reito Koga (Vo, Gt), Shun Hirano (Re, Tp), and Yuki Funakoshi (Me, Key). The group first came together in 2017 as high school brass band members to cover the Kuricorder Quartet’s “Ojii-san no 11 Kagetsu”. They began full-fledged band activities in 2020 and have since released two full-length albums, appeared at events such as BoroFesta 2024 and YATSUI FESTIVAL! 2025, and expanded into composing radio jingles, film theme songs, and soundtrack work.
Nagisa Murakami is a singer-songwriter active mainly in Tokyo’s live house circuit. Rooted in folk, her music is characterized by supple grooves and a rich, undulating voice. In 2025, she released her debut mini-album “Riyuu wa Nai”, which includes tracks produced by Yuma Abe of never young beach. Beyond music, her creative pursuits include publishing and holding solo exhibitions.
FUJIBASE is a solo project launched in 2024, with the artist handling everything from songwriting, arrangement, vocals, and track-making to drumming. Initially sharing casually-made demos under the title Demo Sketch on streaming services each month, FUJIBASE began gaining significant attention on social media for music deeply rooted in Western pop and cinema.
This edition of “exPoP!!!!!” will also collaborate with the Japanese Curry Festival 2025, which runs across the Shibuya area through Sunday, August 31. At the venue, curry will be served by Matsumoto Meiyau, a restaurant originating in Tokyo’s Shinanomachi and now based in Matsumoto, Nagano. Three varieties will be offered, each an original evolution of Indian and Thai-style ethnic curry.
Tickets for “exPoP!!!!! Vol.176” are available for reservation via the official website (two-drink order required).
