Singer-songwriter mei ehara is set to release her third album, All About MacGuffin, digitally worldwide on September 12, with a physical CD release following on September 17 in Japan. The album marks her first full-length release in five years and features ten tracks recorded with her longtime band.
Ahead of the album release, the single “Kanashii Untenshu” (“Sad Driver”) dropped digitally on July 9. The album’s production involved key collaborators including engineer Tsutomu Nakamura and mastering by Los Angeles-based Jake Viator, known for his work with Stones Throw Records. The album cover features original artwork by Brooklyn illustrator and tattoo artist Patrick Edell.
In addition to the album announcement, mei ehara will embark on a U.S. tour visiting four cities, as well as hold a solo show in Tokyo. Her career has also included collaborations with Cornelius and Faye Webster, showcasing her growing international presence.
mei ehara expressed that All About MacGuffin reflects her mental and artistic growth over recent years, describing the album as “one story” shaped by her experiences.
With my third album, All About MacGuffin, I set out to capture something raw and true — an honest reflection of myself as a flawed yet universal soul. Over time, the shifting currents of my mind and heart wove together into a single story, an album that flows as one seamless journey.
There’s a beauty in simplicity, a quiet romance I wanted to embrace fully. Maybe within these songs, you’ll find a spark that resonates with your own story.
In an era where albums often get skipped, I hope you’ll embark on this musical voyage from the very first note to the last, experiencing it as a complete whole.
Though there’s more to share down the road, for now I’m deeply proud of what we’ve created—and endlessly thankful to everyone who helped bring it to life.

To celebrate the release, a US tour visiting four cities — San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago — has been scheduled starting Tuesday, September 23. In Japan, a release commemorative solo live will be held on Sunday, October 19 at WWWX in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Tickets for the Tokyo show are available through the official first lottery on e-plus until Monday, July 21 (holiday).
