Misaki Umei Releases First Vocal Song “Tear.:*+” Ahead of Debut Album in July

Pianist and composer Misaki Umei has released her new digital single “Tear.:*+” on Wednesday, June 25.

This song is a milestone for Umei, as it is the first track to feature her own vocals. She took full creative control, writing the lyrics, arranging the music, and overseeing the mixing and mastering processes. The track blends a drum and bass foundation with improvised piano, classical-inspired structures, and electronic sounds. Its lyrics uniquely incorporate Japanese onomatopoeia, adding an expressive layer to the composition.

Umei also announced that her debut album, Asleep Above Creatures, is set to be released on Wednesday, July 30. The album will feature 11 tracks, including a collaboration with Antonio Loureiro. While “Tear.:*+” will not be part of the album’s tracklist, it will be released separately as an “outside single,” offering a fresh perspective that expands the album’s artistic world. Alongside this announcement, new artist photos shot on a sloping street in Tokyo by Ryusei Kashiwakura—who also created the artwork — were revealed.
