Franz Ferdinand has unveiled a new lyric video for their song “Bar Lonely” on YouTube. The track appears on their latest album The Human Fear, which was released in January.
The video is uniquely set in “Lonely,” a real bar located in Tokyo’s famous Shinjuku Golden Gai district. Filmed both there and in the nearby Kabukicho area, the lyric video features Japanese katakana ruby text above the lyrics, creating a karaoke-style effect where the words turn red in time with the music. This engaging visual style invites viewers to sing along as the song plays.
Kazma Kobayashi of UUWorks, who is also known as the vocalist of the band Bearwear, directed the video.
In other news, Franz Ferdinand is set to embark on their first Japan tour in three years this December, with shows planned in Tokyo and Osaka. Tickets are currently available for general sale.
