The upcoming Netflix series My Melody & Kuromi is set to premiere on Thursday, July 24. It was also announced that the theme song will be “Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino),” performed by LE SSERAFIM.
The stop-motion animated series stars Sanrio’s beloved characters My Melody—celebrating her 50th anniversary in 2025—and Kuromi, who marks her 20th. Set in the cheerful world of Mariland, the story follows the bright and kind-hearted My Melody as she opens a cake shop, and Kuromi, her self-proclaimed rival running a traditional Japanese sweets shop across the street. Together, they confront a crisis that threatens the future of their town. The original story is directed by PUI PUI Molcar creator Tomoki Misato, with a screenplay by Shuko Nemoto.
The theme song “Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino)” is a full collaboration between Gen Hoshino—who handled production, lyrics, composition, and arrangement—and LE SSERAFIM, who perform the track. Member HUH YUNJIN contributed to the English lyrics, marking the first collaboration between the two artists. The song not only complements the adorable charm of the characters, but also reflects the show’s core themes: the importance and beauty of believing in oneself and moving forward. A preview of the track can be heard in the official trailer released on Thursday, June 12.
