The concert film “Björk: Cornucopia” is set for an expanded theatrical release in Japan following its strong audience demand.
Originally released in over 500 theaters across more than 25 countries, the film captures Björk’s 2023 performance at Lisbon’s Altice Arena during her five-year ‘’Cornucopia’’ tour, which included stops in Japan. Directed by Icelandic filmmaker Isold Uggadottir, the film features songs from Björk’s albums ‘’Fossora,’’ ‘’Utopia,’’ and ‘’Vulnicura,’’ and recreates the atmosphere of a 19th-century theater through elaborate stage design and multimedia effects. Notably, all song lyrics are displayed as English subtitles handwritten by Björk herself. The screening also includes a special presentation of three music videos curated by the artist.
In Japan, the film began its limited run on May 7 at 12 theaters nationwide. Due to daily sold-out shows at the main venue, TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, the screening was extended through May 22. The expanded release will bring ‘’Björk: Cornucopia’’ to additional locations, including 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku (Tokyo) and Ougimachi Kinema (Osaka) starting May 23, 35 Aeon Cinema theaters nationwide from May 30, and United Cinemas Canal City 13 (Fukuoka) from June 3. The run at Ougimachi Kinema will continue until May 29, while other theaters will screen the film until June 5.
This extended release offers more fans across Japan the opportunity to experience Björk’s visually stunning and musically rich concert film.
