Saho Terao’s cover album “My Favorite Labor Songs” is set to be released on Wednesday, June 25. The first advance single, “Enyamakkagoen,” was released digitally on Wednesday, May 14.
The album features 13 tracks, including “Enyamakkagoen,” a lullaby-style labor song originating from the Mogami region in Yamagata; “Itabashi no Bouuchi Uta,” a labor song sung during wheat threshing in Itabashi, Tokyo, which will be released as a pre-release single on Wednesday, June 11; and “Aragure,” a ritual song from Iwate performed as a duet with Yuta Orisaka. The lineup mainly consists of traditional labor songs sung throughout Japan, along with ritual songs and lullabies.
Guest musicians on the album include Reisaburo Adachi, Wataru Iga, Masatomo Utashima, Utena Kobayashi, Tatsuro Kondo, Choi Jaecheol, Kumiko Yabu, Wataru Okuma, Fumiya Otonashi, and Altangerel Undarmaa.
Along with the release of this information, a comment from Saho Terao was also made public.
Except for a few well-known songs like “Tsuki nu Kaisha,” many of the songs included have already been forgotten even in their local areas. These songs were rediscovered thanks to records left by people 40 to 50 years ago who tried to preserve the music somehow. I would be very happy if listeners could reflect on the fact that such songs once existed in their hometowns.

The album will be available for early sale at the concert held on Saturday, June 21, at Sogetsu Hall in Akasaka, Tokyo. Although tickets for the concert have sold out, there are plans to sell tickets at the door on the day of the event.
