The Japanese premiere of Brian Eno’s innovative documentary film Eno has been confirmed.
Directed by Gary Hustwit, the documentary features a long-form interview with the iconic artist, combined with over 500 hours of rare archival footage. The film introduces an experimental “Brain One” system, co-developed with artist Brendan Dawes, which allows the film’s structure and content to evolve with each viewing. This cutting-edge approach offers a completely new cinematic experience, breaking traditional film conventions.
This will mark the first theatrical release of the film in Asia. The premiere screening in June will include a special talk show with director Gary Hustwit and Peter Barakan, who supervised the Japanese subtitles. Tickets for the pre-sale lottery are available until Sunday, April 27, with general screenings planned for July in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. Tickets for general admission will go on sale starting Saturday, May 3.
Much of Brian Eno’s career has been dedicated not only to his role as a producer but also to enabling creativity—both his own and others—through collaborations on projects like Oblique Strategies and the music app Bloom. I consider the film Eno to be an art film focused on creativity, with Brian’s 50-year career serving as the material. The goal of creating this work was to craft a cinematic experience as innovative as Brian’s approach to music and art.
