Prada Aoyama to Unveil Visionary Collaboration Between Nicolas Winding Refn and Hideo Kojima

The exhibition “SATELLITES: NICOLAS WINDING REFN WITH HIDEO KOJIMA” will be held at the PRADA Aoyama store in Omotesando, Tokyo, from Friday, April 18, to Monday, August 25.

This collaboration between director, screenwriter, producer, and creator Nicolas Winding Refn and world-renowned video game designer and filmmaker Hideo Kojima is presented as part of the Prada Foundation’s cultural activities.

Born in Denmark and raised in New York, Nicolas Winding Refn gained cult popularity with his 1996 debut film Pusher, which he both wrote and directed. In 2011, he won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival for his work on Drive. His films, including The Neon Demon, have been distributed worldwide.

Hideo Kojima, the creator behind the Metal Gear series, is renowned as a game designer who revolutionized storytelling and cinematic expression in video games. In 2015, he founded his own studio, KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. The studio’s debut title, DEATH STRANDING, released in 2019, won numerous game awards and garnered global acclaim.

The exhibition reflects the mutual relationship and resonance between Nicolas Winding Refn and Hideo Kojima, both of whom believe in the growing convergence of the film and gaming industries. The venue, inspired by cinema, showcases a variety of thought-provoking themes such as friendship, creative collaboration, new technologies and creativity, and death and its aftermath. Visuals of Refn and Kojima are displayed on screens, engaging in reflective dialogues on these themes. In the dressing room, a collection of cassette tapes is set up, featuring movie soundtracks and conversations between Refn and Kojima, translated by AI. Visitors can mix and match the tapes to create their own unique dialogues.
