“Shintaro Sakamoto LIVE 2022 @ Cabaret New Hakuba” will be available on Netflix starting May 1, for a limited time.
The concert film documents the Kumamoto performance of Sakamoto’s 2022 “Like A Fable” tour, held at Cabaret New Hakuba in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture — Japan’s last remaining cabaret. Directed by Hitoshi Ohne, known for “Ground’s Keeper”, the film was shot using six 16mm cameras, capturing the unique atmosphere of the venue, the crowd, and Sakamoto’s performance with a rich, analog texture. Audio recording was handled by sound engineer Soichiro Nakamura.
The film has drawn attention through limited screenings in May 2023 and April 2024, and its upcoming release on Netflix marks the first time a live performance by Shintaro Sakamoto will be available on the platform.
