An exhibition titled “GLAM: Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, Timeless Style” will open at the Sogo Museum of Art in Yokohama, Kanagawa, on May 15, 2025.
Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, who graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Vocal Department, began her career in 1953 with the NHK Broadcasting Theater, where she became the first exclusive television actress for NHK. Over the years, Kuroyanagi expanded her career to include roles as a TV host, author, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Her long-running show “Tetsuko no Heya” has aired since 1976 and holds the Guinness World Record for the most episodes hosted by a single individual. Her 1981 autobiographical novel “Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window” became a global bestseller with over 25 million copies sold, and she has become beloved worldwide as “Totto-chan”.
The upcoming exhibition will showcase Kuroyanagi’s unique and iconic style, with a focus on her fashion collections. Visitors will have the rare chance to explore her signature costumes and her famous “onion hair” look, reflecting her distinct beauty and fashion sense. The exhibition will also highlight her personal life, values, and the energy she radiates, aiming to inspire visitors with the story of her remarkable journey.
