Brad Pitt’s upcoming film F1 is set to hit Japanese theaters under the title F1/エフワン on June 27, 2025. The film is helmed by the creative team behind the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed over ¥135 billion ($1 billion) worldwide. Director Joseph Kosinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and screenwriter Arnon Milchan have reunited for this high-octane sports drama.
In F1, Brad Pitt plays Sonny, a former charismatic F1 racer who comes out of retirement to save one of the sport’s weakest teams. The film follows his journey as he clashes with teammates and team members, pushing the boundaries of convention while striving for greatness in the high-speed world of Formula 1. Damson Idris portrays the young rookie driver, Joshua, while Kelly Condon plays Kate, the team leader, and Javier Bardem takes on the role of Ruben, the representative who brings Sonny back into the sport.
Filmed with the full backing of F1, the movie showcases real-life race tracks from across the globe. Much like Top Gun: Maverick, the cast went through months of rigorous training and drove real F1 cars, ensuring an unparalleled level of authenticity. Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, is also a producer and played an integral role in the film’s production, even participating in the scriptwriting process and overseeing the film’s details, including the engine sounds.
A newly released trailer offers a glimpse of the film’s thrilling race sequences, shot from multiple perspectives to immerse audiences in the action. It highlights the growing rivalry between Sonny and his teammate Joshua, building anticipation for the ultimate showdown that will test their pride and drive.
