Japanese indie record label P-VINE has launched the smartphone app “VINYLVERSE” and the next-generation record “PHYGITAL VINYL.”
“VINYLVERSE,” which means “the world of vinyl,” is a new app that offers a service for managing and sharing physical record collections digitally. Upon account registration, each user’s gallery is created, and by taking photos of record covers within the app, users can search the database for information and add the records to their collection. The gallery can be made public to other users, allowing them to follow other collectors, “like” records they enjoy, and connect through music. A marketplace feature for buying and selling records between users will be introduced in 2025, allowing record shops with physical stores to easily create online stores.
“PHYGITAL VINYL,” which merges physical and digital elements, is the next-generation record designed to integrate with “VINYLVERSE.” The label side of the physical records includes an NFC chip with a QR code. Scanning the QR code connects to a blockchain, allowing users to verify ownership of the record in the app. Through ownership verification, exclusive gifts or event participation rights can be given to owners, facilitating community-building between artists and fans. The feature also envisions future integration with virtual realities such as the metaverse.
On the official release of “VINYLVERSE” and “PHYGITAL VINYL,” Satoru Mizutani, President and CEO of P-VINE, shared a comment on behalf of the “VINYL GOES AROUND” project team, which was launched in 2021.
I am proud to reflect on the journey that began three years ago with the creation of the VINYL GOES AROUND team, a vision born from the desire to deliver records to music lovers across the globe.
In this time, although on a smaller scale, we have worked tirelessly to meet the passionate demand of vinyl supporters. Beyond vinyl records, we’ve ventured into various projects, including exclusive handmade T-shirts and silkscreen prints, as well as books and web columns through Ele-king, all designed to celebrate and enhance the vinyl experience.
This spring, we took another important step forward with the establishment of VINYL GOES AROUND PRESSING, a record pressing factory. It is our hope that, through these efforts, our passion for vinyl and music culture will resonate with others who share our love for records.
From the very beginning, our goal has been to build a community of vinyl enthusiasts. Today, I am excited to announce the launch of “VINYLVERSE,” a new project that will allow collectors to archive and curate their vinyl collections digitally in a “digital shelf.” This service will create opportunities for users to connect with other vinyl lovers and record stores around the world, and in time, develop into a marketplace where records can be bought and sold.
Additionally, we are exploring new possibilities for the future of vinyl. Our efforts are aimed at blending technology with tradition, creating innovative ways to engage with and appreciate music.
As we approach our 50th anniversary, P-Vine remains committed to the value of “THE CHANGING SAME ~ Changing, yet unchanged ~,” and we will continue to uphold the legacy of music culture while delivering new, exciting value to the world of vinyl.
Our mission remains clear: to ensure that records reach music lovers everywhere. ~Vinyl Goes Around~
